National Biomedical Imaging Center

The National Biomedical Imaging Center of Peking University (NBIC) was established in September, 2020. It is an entity research institution of Peking University, attached to the College of Future Technology. It is responsible for the process construction and operation management of the "Multimodal Cross-scale Biomedical Imaging Facility" (hereinafter referred to as "the large facility"), a major national science and technology infrastructure project in the Chinese 13th Five-Year Plan. Academician Peace (He-ping) Cheng, chief scientist of the large facility, served as the director of the center. The large facility project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. Peking University is a legal entity with a total investment of 1.717 billion yuan within the construction period of 2019-2024. The large facility is a giant scientific project initiated by scientists in the field of biomedical imaging. The main construction contents include core imaging facilities, full-scale image integration systems, and related auxiliary platforms. Its construction goal is to build a "one-stop" cluster of biomedical imaging technologies that forms a seamless connection across the spatial-temporal scale and imaging modalities. The facility will provide revolutionary technologies, cutting-edge methods, and state-of-the-art tools for biomedical researches. It is expected to give birth to new research paradigms, and initiate major original breakthroughs.
