Rooting on the strong research fields of medical, life sciences, science, humanities and other disciplines of Peking University, the subject of Biomedical Engineering of Peking University was established in 2003. In 2011, with the approval of the academic degree Office of the State Council, a joint Ph. D. program of Biomedical Engineering between Peking University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Emory University was established. The Department of Biomedical Engineering is committed to promoting the R&D and clinical transformation of advanced medical diagnosis and treatment technologies, and taking this as a platform to promote the optimization and integration of relevant R&D forces throughout Peking University, making Peking University a source of innovation, leading new international medical technologies.
The main research fields of the Department of Biomedical Engineering are: biomaterials and regenerative medicine, medical instruments and medical imaging technology, precision medicine and health bioinformatics.
The Department of biomedical engineering has established extensive and in-depth cooperation with the world's top universities with international cutting-edge research topics as its leading research direction. Among them, it has established the only joint Ph. D. training program in China with top American universities such as Georgia Institute of technology and Emory University, leading the new trend of China's education reform. In terms of teaching, it refers to the running mode of world-class universities such as MIT, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, and Georgia Institute of technology, and is committed to cultivating high-quality leading talents in the field of Biomedical Engineering with comprehensive interdisciplinary disciplines, international vision, and national responsibility.
