Abstract:
Prof. Salem will give an oversight of how she has utilised imaging modalities - from fMRI to confocal microscopy - to study the effects of gut hormones on human appetitive and pancreatic islet function. This work led her into her current interest in advanced models of diabetes with particular reference to improved outcomes for beta cell replacement therapies.

Victoria Salem is the RD Lawrence Professor of Diabetic Medicine at King’s College London, Academic Clinical Director of the King’s College Hospital Islet Transplant Service and Visiting Professor of Diabetes Research at the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London. As a clinician scientist her research has attempted to answer clinically relevant challenges in diabetic medicine.
