The Department of Big Data and Biomedical AI is oriented toward major challenges in life and health sciences. Leveraging the interdisciplinary strengths of the College of Future Technology at Peking University, the Department develops cross-scale and multimodal methods for data integration and intelligent computation based on diverse biomedical data sources, including multi-omics, biomedical imaging, and clinical data.

The Department focuses on advancing biomedical data science from correlation analysis to mechanistic understanding. It integrates data mining, causal analysis, mechanistic modeling, and model validation, and explores validated frameworks for digital cells, digital organs, and emerging digital life systems. At the same time, it investigates frontier directions such as bio-inspired intelligence.

The Department of Big Data and Biomedical AI (BDBA PKU) works closely with the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and the National Institute of Health Data Science at Peking University.
