About Us
National Biomedical Imaging Center

The Peking University National Biomedical Imaging Center (NBIC), established in September 2020, serves as a strategic hub for advancing China's national science and technology infrastructure.

Leveraging the multidisciplinary strengths of Peking University, NBIC oversees the development and operation of the Multimodal Trans-Scale Biomedical Imaging Facility—a flagship "big science" project under China's 13th Five-Year Plan. NBIC is committed to addressing frontier scientific questions and dismantling critical technological barriers in biomedical imaging. In its role as the facility's primary operator, NBIC drives innovation in imaging methodologies, equipping life sciences and medical research with advanced tools to tackle pressing health challenges.

By harnessing large-scale infrastructure, NBIC fosters "zero-to-one" breakthroughs that redefine scientific boundaries. The integration of these resources enables NBIC to advance interdisciplinary fields like imaging omics, catalyzing paradigm shifts in life sciences. Additionally, the center cultivates a talent pipeline skilled in "big science" approaches and cross-disciplinary expertise at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and technology. Through these endeavors, NBIC aims to position itself at the forefront of biomedical imaging, translating foundational discoveries into real-world applications to strengthen China's role in scientific collaboration, technological progress, and healthcare innovation.
