Accumulating evidence suggests that solute carrier (SLC) transporters contribute to the etiology of various human diseases. SLC transporter serves as “Metabolic Gate” of cells and mediates the transport of a wide range of essential nutrients and metabolites. Pharmacologically, many SLC transporters have been developed as drug target to treat diabetes, gout and neurological disorders etc. Since joining Tsinghua, Dr. Chen’s group aims to dissect the physiological and pharmacological functions of important SLCs in Mendelian diseases or specific tissue pattern. In this talk, he will introduce two recent research advances on SLC mediated metabolic regulation: 1, SLC Remodelling Metabolic Tissues with endogenous substrate identification, metabolic signalling and molecular mechanism; 2, SLC Shaping Immunity mainly on creatine and monocarboxylate transporters that induce robust metabolic reprogramming, thereby controlling diverse immunological responses.
